Stella 13s win the League Cup today with a powerful performance against a St. Josephs Boys in Rathcoole. The game was a credit to two teams at the end of a long season and throughout both sides played it on the deck with constructive pass and move football on show for all to see. Stella took the lead with a fantastic header from Gerard Noone, losing his marker in a packed box he cleverly found half a yard and with power and pace he connected with a well executed cross, the ball smashed the back of the net before the opposition realized the Stella movements. Joes pushed for a spell after the goal but Stella’s defence were stalwart and contained Joes to long range efforts that never really trouble the Stella keeper. Half way through the second half Stella struck the killer blow as a slide rule pass into the Stella striker seen him clear the last defender and with a superbly executed lob Gerard found the back of the net for the security Stella needed to close out the game. These young Stella stars of the future played with pride and delivered the result their management team believed was well within them , and as the final whistle blow and the players celebrated Premier promotion and a League Cup success the sad news filtered in of the passing away of the managers mum. To all at Stella to one of our own stars our deepest sympathies to Darren (Sambo) and his family.
